FAQ
How does a solid oxide fuel cell work?
A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is an electrochemical conversion device that produces electricity directly from fuel without the inefficiencies of combustion. In a solid oxide fuel cell there is a ceramic core that acts as a channel for the electrons.
What is a flexible fuel cell?
All fuel cells have two sides: fuel and air. They produce energy by moving something from one side to the other. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) and other hydrogen fuel cells move the fuel – that’s why they need pure hydrogen and are fuel-inflexible. Adaptive Materials’ solid oxygen fuel cells (SOFC) move the air (oxygen). Since air is available everywhere and is always the same, we can be flexible in what fuel we choose to use. This allows Adaptive Materials to use fuel sources such as propane (LPG) or methane (CNG), which are readily available throughout the world TODAY. While a hydrogen economy would be great, it is decades away from reality due to the infrastructure issues.
Why non-hydrogen fuel cells?
Unlike other fuel cells that run on combustible methanol or hard to find and dangerous fuel sources, Adaptive Materials’ flexible fuel cell systems run on propane tanks that are globally available, inexpensive and easy to use. The benefits of an Adaptive Materials fuel cell are plentiful including terrific fuel efficiency, extended run times, quiet operation, reduced emissions versus traditional generators, almost no vibrations, and the ability to do all this from readily available fuels such as propane.
Where are your fuel cell data sheets?
Our data are located within each product page, located under our Products Section.
Can I buy one? How much does a fuel cell system cost?
We concentrate our sales through a select group of project partners who integrate our power solutions into their products. If you are interested in being a project partner, please challenge us to meet your power need. If you are a consumer interested in our flexible fuel cell products, please continue to stay in touch for product and technology updates through our website.
Do you make custom fuel cell solutions?
Please challenge us if you would like to consider a partnership opportunity with Adaptive Materials through the integration of 50 to 250 systems into your products. A full partnership could include custom design of an integrated power solution, relevant mutual product exclusivity, production and delivery of systems, and field engineering support.
Can I invest in flexible fuel cell technology?
Thank you for your interest in Adaptive Materials, Inc. Flexible fuel cells are a game changing technology. Clean, lightweight, easy. At this time we have no timeline for issuing public shares. We will be sure to update our website if and when we file the appropriate paperwork with the SEC for the public issuance of shares. In the meantime, please feel free to check back to our website regularly to learn about our latest technical and commercial progress. We appreciate your and the community’s ongoing support.
Are you hiring?
Yes, we are hiring a variety of positions, including engineers, technicians and administrative staff. We are also hiring engineers from other manufacturing industries and retraining them to work in this alternative energy space.
